Program includes Antonio Vivaldi's musical expressions

This evening will feature Vivaldi's instrumental music - concerts for violins and oboes, which was destined to mark the end of almost a century and a half of solo instrumental concerts, from the early 17th century to the mid-18th century. Vivaldi's concerts for various instruments were particularly loved by the public: the competition between soloist and orchestra reminded the audience of theatre or debate. In general, Vivaldi's music bears the imprint of Venice's bustling and festive life, its carnivals, sumptuous theatrical productions and the city's rich folklore. As a priest, Vivaldi also wrote church music, and his Gloria for soloists, choir and orchestra, RV 589, composed in 1715, is one of the most striking and popular examples of this genre. This hymn of praise displays Vivaldi's compositional mastery, combining solo fragments and choruses into a cohesive whole, with many of the contrasts typical of baroque music.
